1. The Short Version

Two cookies are set on this site, both by Google Analytics, and both only so I can see how many people visit. I set none of my own. There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking. Blocking all of them costs you nothing: the favicon generator works exactly the same either way.

2. What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small piece of text a site asks your browser to keep and send back on your next visit. It is what lets a site recognise a returning browser. Since this site has no accounts, no cookie here keeps you logged in or remembers anything you typed.

3. The Cookies On This Site

Google Analytics sets both of them when a page loads. They are first-party cookies, which means they are stored under this site's own domain rather than an advertiser's.

  • _ga

Tells one browser apart from another so a repeat visit is not counted twice. It lasts two years.

  • _ga_ followed by a measurement id

Keeps track of the current visit so a single session is not counted as several. It lasts two years. This site's measurement id is G-LV9MEV38V5.

Google sets and reads these under its own privacy policy. What I see back is visitor counts and which pages get read, never anything about you personally.

4. Cookies This Site Does Not Use

  • Advertising or targeting cookies. No ads are served here and no ad network is loaded.
  • Cross-site tracking cookies. Nothing follows you to other websites, and nothing is sold or shared with data brokers.
  • Login or session cookies. There is no account to sign in to.
  • Cookies of my own. The server never sends a cookie back with a page, and no code on the site writes one.

5. Not Cookies, But Worth Knowing

Two settings are kept in your browser's local storage instead. Local storage is not a cookie: it is never attached to a request, so it never reaches my server or anyone else's.

  • theme remembers whether you chose light or dark.
  • favicon:whats-new remembers that you have already read the latest What's New note.

The image you upload is never put in storage of any kind. It is held in the page while you work and released when you close the tab.

6. Turning Cookies Off

Every browser can block or clear cookies from its privacy settings, and any content blocker will stop the Google Analytics script from loading in the first place. Google also offers a browser opt-out add-on. Clearing your site data removes the two cookies and the two local storage settings together. Nothing on this site breaks when you do.

7. Changes To This Policy

If the set of cookies ever changes, I will change this page to match. Changes take effect as soon as they are posted. This version was last updated on 7 September 2026. For the full picture of what the site collects, read the privacy policy.
